The charity was chosen in memory of Ann’s husband, Brian, who sadly passed away from cancer in March 2023. This generous donation will support crucial research aimed at improving cancer treatments and early detection in the fight against the disease.
The match finished 3 points a piece after Tom Coulter and JP McGeough got the points at home with Aaron Moore winning a half at home as well.
Josh Murray got the half at Cushendall with Brent Eastwood narrowly beat on 18. Alan Trainor also lost his match narrowly in normal time on 17 but was the hero of the day winning the play off to ensure we progressed to the next round.
Thanks to all those who got down to support the lads and special mention to team captain Peter McCoy
The day kicked off bright and early at 7:30 am, with perfect weather greeting those teeing off. Throughout the day, 119 golfers teed off. Although rain made an appearance around midday, it didn't dampen the spirits or the overall enjoyment of the event. After finishing their rounds, players were treated to a delicious spread of burgers, hotdogs, and more thanks to The Chipped Potato.
The day concluded with Captain's Night at the Beechlawn Hotel, where 130 attendees enjoyed a great evening. A special thank you to Councillor Jonathan Craig, Chair of Communities and Wellbeing Committee and his wife for joining us.
The club captain would like to express his gratitude to the Committee of Lambeg Golf Club and the green staff at Aberdelghy Golf Course for all their hard work and dedication in the lead-up to this event. Their efforts did not go unnoticed and contributed immensely to its success.

Well done to our Ulster Cup team who got the win against a strong Narin & Portnoo team.
Three matches home and three matches away. Both teams with the same mindset of winning all their home games and nicking a point or a half away.
We managed to get a point at Narin & Portnoo and two at home meaning the match ended in a tie 3-3. It then went to a sudden death play off hole in which Tom Coulter, hero of the hour, played a blinder with a birdie on the first and his competitor unable to match him.
On to the next round we go
Thanks to Narin & Portnoo for a great match and fantastic hospitality.

Tom Coulter, JP McGeough and Aaron Moore

Investment in Golf Facilities at Castlereagh Hills and Aberdelghy Golf Courses
Two exciting new golf practice areas have now opened at Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s two municipal golf courses. The investment programme has seen the launch of a four bay driving range at Aberdelghy Golf Course and two indoor golf studios at Castlereagh Hills Golf Course.
The practice areas use the latest golfing technology to complement both popular 18-hole courses. The golf studio operates using Trackman software, which is loaded with the latest golf data and simulation equipment. Golfers can virtually choose to play over 300 of the world’s greatest golf courses to challenge their skills against the top flite PGA players. Young golfers can also enjoy a range of animated games, making the facility the perfect venue for a family activity.
The driving range at Aberdelghy provides an easy option for members and guests to practice their golf swing during inclement weather. The sheltered area will offer a schedule of lessons as well as groups sessions for schools and corporate bookings.
Councillor Thomas Beckett, Chair of the LCCC’s Communities and Wellbeing Committee said, “The opening of these two practice areas is an important addition to both golf courses as they provide an option for customers to play golf all-year round. This means members and visitors can participate in the sport regardless of wet weather conditions, which will further enhance their golfing experience.
“There is also the benefit of extending our highly successful lessons programme by tailoring sessions within a dedicated practice area. This will open up the possibilities for golfers to increase their skills and confidence before heading out on the course. It is also hoped that that the facilities will inspire new golfers to take up the sport and increase participation in physical activity and wellbeing across the council area.
“I look forward to welcoming golfers to both practice areas and seeing the benefits of the new facilities on their game.”

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s popular ‘Summer in the City’ Programme returned this year with its usual jam-packed offering across the Lisburn and Castlereagh area.
The ‘Summer in the City’ Programme provides over 2,500 places on summer schemes, swim camps and sports courses, including the Junior Golf Coaching Camps held at Castlereagh Hills and Aberdelghy Golf Courses.
Delivered by PGA Professional at Castlereagh Hills and Aberdelghy Golf Courses, Wesley Ramsey, the Golf Coaching Camps are suitable for boys and girls aged 7 – 16 years.
Visiting week one of the Junior Golf Coaching Camp at Castlereagh Hills Golf Course, Chair of Leisure and Community Wellbeing, Councillor Thomas Beckett said, “The council recognises the valuable role the ‘Summer in the City’ programme plays in supporting parents and carers over the long summer months. Sports courses such as the Junior Golf Coaching Camps offer children the chance to get outside, get active and meet new friends whilst potentially trying the sport of golf for the first ever time. Avid golfers are also welcome to keep up their golfing skills as the coaching is delivered in a tailored way to suit all individuals. Having gained a merited reputation, Castlereagh Hills continues to be a popular 18-hole golf course in the Lisburn Castlereagh area and I hope these young people are inspired to continue the sport.”
PGA Professional Wesley Ramsay continued, “Golfing enthusiasts aged 7 – 16 years can get involved in our Golf Coaching Camps at Castlereagh Hills Golf Course and Aberdelghy Golf Course. The camps are ideal for both beginners and experienced players. All sessions will be enjoyable for the kids as I coach through a games based learning and practice approach. You can expect to learn the basics such as how to hold a golf club and hit the golf ball plus lots more.”
A programme of summer schemes and other sports courses are delivered across the council area and allow children to experience a new sport or progress their interest in a specific area such as goal keeping and Gaelic football. Swim camps take place at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex and cater from Baby Bubbles to Junior Level, which is an excellent opportunity to accelerate through the lessons programme.
Summer Scheme venues within the ‘Summer in the City’ programme include Dundonald International Ice Bowl, Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, Glenmore Activity Centre, Grove Activity Centre, Lough Moss Leisure Centre and Ballybeen Sports Hub.
Spaces remain on the next Junior Golf Coaching Camps which will take place on 14th – 18th August at both Castlereagh Hills and Aberdelghy Golf Courses.

A group of children have been learning to play golf as part of two unique summer golf camps taking place at both Castlereagh Hills Golf Course and Aberdelghy Golf Course.
The camps, which were aimed at children aged 5-14 years, provided an introduction to golf through a number of fun workshops on the course. The sessions were delivered by the Golf Professional team in conjunction with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.
Speaking at the event, Councillor Sharon Skillen, Chair of the Leisure & Community Development Committee said, “The summer golf camps provide a fantastic platform to bring children together to experience a sport, which many will be trying for the first time.
“Throughout the week, children had the opportunity to take part in series of workshops and challenges under the expert coaching of the Chris Jelly Golf team. It was also great to see first-hand, the children putting their new skills into practice, which you can tell by the smiles and laughter, how much the sessions were enjoyed by everyone who attended.
“I hope to see all the children back onto the course again either as a junior member or at a golf outing with their family. Who knows, we could see the future rise of the next Rory McIlroy!”
